Why it It must be compiled directly into the kernel binary? Would it definitely not work using the modular approach as described in the iwlwifi article? If so, should this be mentioned as an exception there?

- If the driver is built in, as I would recommend for the T420, then the firmware must be built in as well. This article was started by me using the T420 I type this reply to you on as an example; it works best for me to have the driver built in. Ideally, from a security perspective, people shouldn't be probing firmware into their kernels after the system as booted. But that may just be my opinion. Also, I'm still working on completing this article, so the kernel configuration section is not yet finished. --Maffblaster (talk) 10:24, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
- I just noted that you were mentioning the driver. The article says the FIRMWARE should be built-in to the kernel. It doesn't matter as much for the driver itself. Closing discussion. --Maffblaster (talk) 17:01, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
