GRUB2 with ext4 for PPC
NewWorld Apple (G4 at least) is somewhat supported with grub2. It provides also support for ext4 for root file system, so it should be mentioned also as an option.
Here are some instructions how to do away with grub2: http://cynic.cc/blog/posts/running_grub2_on_powerpc_macs/
I ended up trying that route, as current yaboot-ebuild is broken (https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=527974). — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jruoho (talk • contribs) March 21, 2015
- I ran into this problem with yaboot:
- Maybe the workaround should be mentioned?

- Feel free to update the handbook. Me and SwifT don't use PPC. --Maffblaster (talk) 22:22, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
- I'm going to mark this discussion as closed. Min.xu , please add the workaround to the Yaboot article. If/when you add it there I will provide a link to the PPC Handbook. Those on the Handbook team do not have the knowledge or the resources (we don't have PPC systems) to actually be good caretakers for the PPC Handbook. Please message me on #gentoo-wiki if/when you do what I ask. Kind regards, --Maffblaster (talk) 19:12, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- Reopening this discussion. Recently a friends gave me a Power Mac G5, so in the future I can now help with the PPC Handbook. If I verify nothing needs improved/change in terms of the bootloader I'll close it back down; from a brief scan it looks like you guys are right and we'll at least need to migrate the PPC Handbook away from yaboot to GRUB2. :) --Maffblaster (talk) 21:07, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
I decided to try and write a guide for setting up GRUB on NewWorld PowerMacs on Gentoo, perhaps it'll be useful when adding a section about GRUB into the handbook (since I myself had trouble setting up yaboot on my machine): https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-8230932.html Dusxmt (talk) 16:47, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
